The Relationship Between Parental Child-Rearing Styles and Self-Confidence Among Eighth-Grade Students at State Junior High School No. 5 in Kupang City

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between parenting styles and the self-confidence of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 5 Kota Kupang during the 2025/2026 academic year. This study employed a quantitative research approach. The population consisted of 352 eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 5 Kota Kupang during the 2025/2026 academic year. The research sample consisted of 55 students. The data collection instruments used were a parenting style questionnaire and a self-confidence questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the Pearson product-moment correlation technique with the assistance of SPSS for Windows version 26. The results showed that the significance value, Sig. (2-tailed), was 0.000 < 0.05. This indicates that there is a significant relationship between parenting styles and the self-confidence of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 5 Kota Kupang during the 2025/2026 academic year.
